Weskota Wellness Update – March 2010

Senior Stretch & Strength – Next 4-week session begins Wed., Mar. 10th – Class meets on Wednesdays from 9-9:30 a.m. in the Hospital Community Room - $6 for the 4-week session - Improve strength, balance & flexibility - Exercise bands are recommended – Dianne Kludt, Instructor - Those interested should register & pay in the Hospital Business Office.  

Q107 “Around The World” Fitness Program – Don’t forget to log-in each week on www.q107radio.com & record your mileage – Mileage will be combined with all other participants to meet the goal of reaching around the world – Promotion runs through April - Call Amanda Baker, Wellness Assistant at 539-1201 for details.    

Weight Support Group – Support Group coordinated through Springs Parish Nurse Program – Weigh-in is every Monday at noon at the Court House Community Room – Make-up date on Tuesdays for Monday holidays - $10 to join for initial 6 weeks – $5 for each 6-week session thereafter – Is on-going, so you may join anytime – $1 back for every pound lost & no fee after reaching goal weight - Call Susan Arnott at 539-1999 prior to attending a weigh-in.     

Alzheimer’s Support Group – Monday, Mar. 8 – Held on second Monday of each month - Weskota Manor Avera at 5 p.m. – Call Valerie Channel, Social Services Designee at Weskota Manor Avera 539-1621 for details.   

Diabetes Support Group – Monday, Mar. 8 at 5:30 p.m. in Weskota Manor Private Dining Room - Facilitated by Karen Mickelson, RN and Diabetes Educator of Horizon Health Care – Call Horizon Health Care for details at 539-1778 

Caregivers Support Group – Monday, Mar. 29 - Support Group hosted by the Springs Parish Nurse Program meets the last Monday of each month - Weskota Apartments South at 7 p.m. - Tips on providing care, opportunities to share ideas & support of others - Call Susan Arnott at 539-1999 for details.     

Weskota Wellness & Rehab Center – Memberships for singles, married couples & families – Special student and senior rates – Sliding fee also offered for memberships - Call 539-1201 for details.

Health Care Special Events: 

Weskota Manor Avera’s 45th Anniversary – Congratulations Weskota Manor Avera on your 45th Anniversary.  Although the private, non-profit, 40-resident nursing facility was incorporated in 1964, the first residents were not admitted until March 1, 1965 so anniversaries have been celebrated from that date forward.  Our caregivers are guided by our mission to promote a life worth living for all by providing a home full of love, respect & companionship.  

March 7-13 – Professional Social Work Week – Thanks Valerie Channel for being our Social Services Designee for the Hospital & Manor!   

March 30 – Medical Staff Appreciation Day – Thanks Dr. Dean, Dr. Orstad, Dr. Lim & P.A. Groves!  Thank you for the long hours and dedication to the care of others. Your commitment is greatly appreciated. 

April 19 - Women’s Spring Escape – Jerauld County Ag Building from 5-8 p.m. - Health screenings, exhibits, food, prizes plus speaker Sheila Letcher, Cancer Survivor & Humorist will be part of the event hosted by the Wessington Springs Healthcare Team.
